Sunset Rock Uniting Church affirms that:
- Marriage for Christians is the freely given consent and commitment in public and before God of a man and a woman to live together for life.
- It is intended to be the mutually faithful lifelong union of a woman and a man expressed in every part of their life together.
- In marriage the man and the woman seek to encourage and enrich each other through love and companionship.
Using the above definition of marriage, Sunset Rock Uniting Church also believes that:
- Christ calls all people to a life of celibacy in singleness and faithfulness in marriage.
- Sexual activity outside of celibacy in singleness and faithfulness in marriage is contrary to the will of God as expressed in the consistent teaching of Scripture.
and therefore:
- Persons engaged in a lifestyle of sexual activity outside of marriage will not be appointed to any positions of leadership in this church.
Notwithstanding the above, Sunset Rock Uniting Church also strongly believes that:
- The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Church are offered to all people regardless of the expression of their sexuality.
- All people sin and fall short of the God’s perfect desire for their lives
- All repentant sinners are freely forgiven by God and warmly encouraged into the full life of the Church
